Kistler Vineyards was founded by the Kistler family in 1978. The first vintage in 1979 produced 3,500 cases. Since then the winery has slowly grown to a planned production level of approximately 30,000 cases. Today Kistler Vineyards farms over150 acres of vineyard on seven different sites in Sonoma County and its main focus is the production of world-class vineyard-designated Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The winery and its new hospitality facility are located near Sebastopol in the heart of the Russian River Valley. Steve Kistler continues as winemaker and director of farming operations at Kistler Vineyards. In 2011 he established a new pinot noir only brand called Occidental, located in the Freestone-Occidental region of the Sonoma Coast, where he is joined by his daughters Catherine and Elizabeth.
