On Thursday, March 16, the Emeril Lagasse Foundation had the honor of attending St. Michael’s Special School’s 40th Annual Chefs’ Charity for Children at the Hilton New Orleans Riverside.

Chefs' Charity is one of the key fund raising events that benefit St. Michael Special School, the Catholic school that serves special needs children and adults of Greater New Orleans.

Every year, some of New Orleans’ most renowned chefs come together to cook, teach, entertain and serve up a delicious lunch for a great cause. Local chefs David Slater, Tory McPhail, Nina Compton, John Besh, Alon Shaya, Justin Devilier and Leah Chase among other greats, all took part in preparing this year’s memorable meal for over 1,000 attendees.

Hosted by WWL-TV anchor Eric Paulsen, the event featured a lunch buffet and samplings of dishes prepared in chefs’ cooking demonstrations. Attendees also received a cookbook featuring 35 of the recipes as a special gift.

A beneficiary of the Foundation since 1988, St. Michael Special School remains one of Chef Emeril’s important causes. Events like Chef’s Charity offer special opportunities for chefs and attendees to get to know the students they’re helping all while having fun and raising money for a critical cause.

Chef Emeril has been personally involved with Chefs’ Charity since 1986,” said Brian Kish, President of the Emeril Lagasse Foundation. “We look forward to many more years of support for this inspirational event and beneficiary.

Founded in 1965 by Sr. Lillian McCormack, St. Michael Special School, provides an ungraded, individualized academic curriculum with a focus on functional skills that can foster independence in the community for children and adults with learning disabilities.
