Emeril Lagasse Foundation Raises $650,000 at Inaugural Line, Vine & Dine Fishing Tournament

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Emeril Lagasse Foundation raised $650,000 for non-profit organizations during its inaugural Line, Vine & Dine fishing tournament held February 9-11 in Ft. Lauderdale. Proceeds benefited Emeril Lagasse Foundation in support of local charities ARC Broward Culinary Institute and Dan Marino Foundation, who both are dedicated to improving the lives of people with developmental disorders and other life challenges.

My wife Alden and I are thrilled with the success of our first charity fishing tournament,” says Chef Emeril Lagasse. “We are so appreciative of the amazing support from our generous donors, sponsors, chefs and the Ft. Lauderdale community that made this weekend possible.

The first annual event kicked-off on Thursday with Champagne & Ceviche, a Captain’s Reception by G.H. Mumm and Monty’s Seafood, sponsored by HMY Yachts and Viking Yachts. On Friday, the two-day sailfish charity fishing tournament began, where a total of 113 sailfish were caught by 17 teams competing for the title of Tournament Champion. Friday evening was host to Tacos & Terroir, a dockside weigh-in celebration sponsored by Jimmy John’s, featuring cuisine by celebrity Chef Aarón Sánchez and entertainment by Grammy award-winning artists Locos Por Juana. On Friday, guests who were not fishing enjoyed a Fashion Show and Luncheon presented by Neiman Marcus Fort Lauderdale.

The sold-out event weekend came to a close on Saturday evening with the Vine & Dine Seafood Cook-Off sponsored by Moss Foundation. Chefs Emeril Lagasse, Clay Conley, Angelo Elia, Cindy Hutson, Sean Brasel and Greg McGowan prepared a variety of seafood dishes paired with wine from some of Napa Valley & Sonoma's best winemakers. Tournament awards, a silent and live auction and an intimate performance by Sammy Hagar & surprise guest Kenny Chesney highlighted the evening. Throughout the weekend, guests were given special gifts from sponsors including Olukai and Costa.

The event was co-chaired by Mike Bender and his wife Bridget, who serves on the 13-person board of directors of the Emeril Lagasse Foundation. “My husband Mike and I are incredibly happy to support the Foundation and these inspiring organizations,” said Bridget Bender, event chairwoman. “Giving back to this community and serving those less fortunate are our pride and joy and we thank everyone who came out this year in support of that.”
